I’m sorry, but this is a human rights violation:

”A federal appellate court upheld a Texas law requiring parental consent for minors seeking to access birth control in a ruling against the federal government and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Director Xavier Becerra.”

So, in summary:

  1. Fundie parents scare the crap out of their kids so they will never seek out birth control (because Fundies are notorious for not sparing the rod).
  2. Fundie teenagers, having the executive function of a potato and raging hormones flowing through their bodies, will absolutely have sex before turning 18 (and it’s not because they are “making bad choices,” see potato).
  3. Some portion of the Fundie teenagers who are able to get pregnant will.
  4. But because Texas has a Fundie government, those same teenagers can no longer get an abortion.
  5. And given that being a teenage parent is not the sure fire way to career and financial success that Fundies would lead us to believe it is, the results will be more poverty and more suffering for both the teenagers and the children they now have to figure out how to take care of despite having the executive function of a potato.

Note to attentive readers: Steps 1-5 are more or less repeated verbatim when it comes to letting trans kids access puberty blockers in Texas. And yes, that’s a human rights violation as well.

I’m so tired of evangelicals and their attempts to make a collection of stories written by people who knew God but frequently disagreed about what that meant into an infallible rule book. And I’m even more tired of the fact that they seemed to have completely missed Jesus’s point about loving their neighbor. And I’m especially tired of the fact that they want to impose their wrong theology upon people who don’t believe it, especially when the data does not back up their wrong theology.
