I understand that the Catholic Church has a diversity of opinion on any number of issues, unlike evangelicalism which is still largely monolithic. But the fact is that the leadership – even Pope Francis – makes the same mistake as evangelicals in turning the all encompassing love of Christ into an insider/outsider religion that leads to suffering and oppression. Until the Catholic Church proper decides that the gospel is good news for all, my only desire for it is to continue to shrink into irrelevancy.

Note to the “male and female” crowd: consider dusk and wetlands. Consider the atmosphere. Creation was not binary. Oh yeah, and consider science while you’re at it.

I had briefly heard about the story of the two aunts that died trying to “live off the grid,” but the details of the story really broke me:

”In the days before his family moved to live off the grid in the Colorado wilderness, 13-year-old Talon Vance told his online gaming friends goodbye.

”NOOO COME BACK,” the username Fluffy wrote. “Please I will give anything for you to come back,” another responded.

The 13-year-old who loved video games and computers transcribed the messages over 24 pages in a journal before his family left Colorado Springs for the remote Gold Creek campground outside Gunnison — a move prompted by his mother’s conspiratorial fears about global elites and the pandemic.”

All he wanted to do was be a normal 13-year old kid playing online games. But mom got in with the nutters on the Internet and murdered him, even though it isn’t being characterized as such. Our society is very, very sick.

While I am on the topic of murder committed by people who should be caring for a kid, Nex was murdered. The state of Oklahoma with its transphobic policies, the school administrators who couldn’t be bothered to protect kids from bullying, and the parents of the transphobic kids who had been harassing Nex all conspired to murder him. Whether ultimately it was the injuries suffered in the fight or suicide is irrelevant. If you make a kid’s life miserable, and they end up dead, you are a murderer. I sincerely hope the DOJ files a civil rights case against all of those entities, and that the family files wrongful death suits as well. It won’t be justice, but it’s still important to hold the people responsible to account.

I’m sorry, but this is a human rights violation:

”A federal appellate court upheld a Texas law requiring parental consent for minors seeking to access birth control in a ruling against the federal government and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Director Xavier Becerra.”

So, in summary:

  1. Fundie parents scare the crap out of their kids so they will never seek out birth control (because Fundies are notorious for not sparing the rod).
  2. Fundie teenagers, having the executive function of a potato and raging hormones flowing through their bodies, will absolutely have sex before turning 18 (and it’s not because they are “making bad choices,” see potato).
  3. Some portion of the Fundie teenagers who are able to get pregnant will.
  4. But because Texas has a Fundie government, those same teenagers can no longer get an abortion.
  5. And given that being a teenage parent is not the sure fire way to career and financial success that Fundies would lead us to believe it is, the results will be more poverty and more suffering for both the teenagers and the children they now have to figure out how to take care of despite having the executive function of a potato.

Note to attentive readers: Steps 1-5 are more or less repeated verbatim when it comes to letting trans kids access puberty blockers in Texas. And yes, that’s a human rights violation as well.

I’m so tired of evangelicals and their attempts to make a collection of stories written by people who knew God but frequently disagreed about what that meant into an infallible rule book. And I’m even more tired of the fact that they seemed to have completely missed Jesus’s point about loving their neighbor. And I’m especially tired of the fact that they want to impose their wrong theology upon people who don’t believe it, especially when the data does not back up their wrong theology.

Congratulations, future coup-leading Presidents. The Supreme Court, in their infinite and definitely not corrupted by money and politics wisdom, has decided that you can insurrect away and run for office as many times as you want afterwards as long as enough members of Congress are in on the conspiracy and therefore will protect you. Next on the agenda: immunity to all Presidents for all time for life for any crimes they commit!

Note to careful readers: I don’t care that the decision was 9-0. The Constitution is not a suicide pact, but apparently even the liberal justices think it is. We are barreling toward fascism and the end of the Constitution and Democrats and other liberals are not up to the task of stopping the coming putsch.

Wow it’s been nine months since I posted here. I’m not going to get into it right now (and may not ever on this blog), but some… things… happened that distracted me from posting here.

But I think I will be back, at least for a while, because, have you seen all the crap that evangelicals are doing to this country?
